If you're having problems with the 2015 version, or want to go with the newest version, you can try the
THE 2017 COMMUNITY VERSION HERE. If you use this version, when you open the installer, it'll ask you which
modules "workloads" you want to install. Choose "Desktop Development with C++". When it's done installing,
click "launch". You can then right click the icon in your taskbar and "pin to taskbar" for easy opening of the
program later on.
ALSO: if you're using the 2017 community version, the process to create a new project will be slightly different than the PDF shows. You'll need to choose "Windows Desktop Wizard" instead of
win32. Then, check empty project and uncheck precompiled header
Creating a project in Microsoft Visual Studio
Check out This Link to learn how to properly create a new c++ project for this course. Make sure to follow the directions very carefully.
Microsoft Visual studio is the software that the TA's will use to grade your program submissions.
MAC users
You can download a program called xcode to use as an IDE, but
BE AWARE that the grading will be done on MSFT Visual Studio Express 2015. THEREFORE IF YOU HAVE A MAC AND WILL BE USING XCODE OR ANY OTHER
METHOD TO DEVELOP YOUR PROGRAMS, MAKE SURE TO CHECK THEM IN VISUAL STUDIO BEFORE
SUBMITTING.
See how to start a c++ project in xcode HERE. Then, remove any
code it starts you with and begin with the c++ skeleton I provided.
Another option - Virtual Lab!
Good news!
Students have access to VS2013 from anywhere on campus using the virtual lab:
CLICK
HERE
Click the link above and click "sign in". Install the citrix receiver if necessary to your computer.
Once that installs, you can return to the link above (again click on log on to myFSUVlab) and log in
using your FSU ID and password.
Then, at the top, click on "apps" and then scroll down. You'll see Microsoft visual studio 2013!
IF YOU USE THIS SERVICE, it's up to YOU to familiarize yourself with the FAQ's about this service (Aka,
how do you save your work to your local computer from here, how do you copy paste work from this
service to your local machine, etc.)
Here's some FAQ's regarding
myFSUVLab
This should be an easy way for those who can't easily obtain visual studio on their machine to do so.
If you already have VS on your machine, of course you can disregard this. You can also continue using
xcode if you choose, but you can use this access to visual studio when you need to check your code in
the proper environment.
Computers on Campus!
Computers with Visual studio are available in the computer lab on the 2nd Floor of the Student Union,
other computer labs on campus, and LOV 006 Majors Lab.
