09/27/2017 - A Note on the Quiz Grades

You should now be able to see an entry for In-Class Quizzes in your gradebook.
We will have at least 4 quizzes over the semester, and each of those is worth 25 points. So, right now, after this week's quiz, you are seeing the grade on 25, even if the gradebook says 100. This is because, as we have more quizzes, I'll just update this entry instead of having a separate entry for each quiz. Please don't panic when you see the 25/100 grade.
It is likely that we will have more than 4 quizzes. If we do, your grade will be the total of the 4 highest quiz grades. This allows folks to miss a couple of quizzes and still get the full 100. So, even if you missed this week's quiz, you're probably fine.

09/25/2017 - First Midterm

The first midterm will be on Wednesday, 10/11/2017 (Sections 11-14) and Thursday, 10/12/2017 (Sections 16-19), in class.
The test will be closed notes. You only need to bring a pen/pencil.
A study guide for the test will be posted later in the week on the class website.

09/14/2017 - Recitations begin next week

1. Recitations will begin from week 4. Please attend the recitation for your section.
2. The homework has also been extended further, to Thursday, 09/21/2017. This gives you an opportunity to attend the reciation to get some practice, and plenty of office hours in case you need help.
3. The class website has been updated to include a column for Exercises. This will include reading assignments and programming exercises. These don't have to be turned in. They are just for practice. Solutions to the programming exercises will be posted about a week after the exercises, and you can compare your solutions to these.
4. The reading assignments list the section numbers for the 8th edition of the textbook. If you have a different edition, please make sure you're reading the correct sections. We'll have a somewhat heavy reading assignment for Week 3, since we're catching up, and since we didn't have lectures. They will lighten up to around 2 or 3 sections in the future.

09/09/2017 - Homework Postponed. Stay Safe

Since FSU is closed through Friday, I am extending the homework deadline to Tuesday, 9/19/2017, for now. This is subject to change depending on the extent of the effects of Irma on Tallahassee. Please stay safe. We can worry about the course and homeworks and other trival stuff once we ride out the storm. I will see you in about 10 days.

09/05/2017 - No Recitations(lab) this week, website is online

Recitation Sessions (the 1 hour lab) are canceled this week as well.
Also, the course website is online. You can find it here

8/28/2017 - Welcome to COP 3014 - No Recitations this week

Welcome to Programming I. Just a couple of start of term notices.
1. First day attendance is mandatory. Please show up for the first lecture. If you are absent, you will be dropped from the class (as per FSU policy).
2. No recitations this week. This allows the instructors to assign recitations to TA's as per enrollment in each section, which stabilizes only after drop/add.
See you in class!
