Dr. Shayok Chakraborty organized an AI Workshop
Dr. Shayok Chakraborty organized an AI workshop (in the CS department at FSU) for high school students in July 2025. This was done as part of the outreach activities of his ongoing NSF CAREER project. The workshop was held for 5 days, and covered the fundamentals of AI, the recent research in this area, and a few exemplar applications of AI. It also covered some of the ethical concerns surrounding the usage of AI (particularly, generative AI), so that students learn to use the technology in a responsible manner.
Students were also engaged in hands-on activities, where they were exposed to a variety of state-of-the-art AI tools (tools to solve classification tasks, tools for image / video / text generation etc.); the students had to use these tools to solve real-world problems. A section of the workshop was also dedicated to discussing potential career paths in AI. Through anonymous feedback, the students conveyed that the workshop helped them broaden their understanding of AI, and the hands-on activities helped them get a flavor of how AI can be used to solve practical problems.
