Abstract
This talk will discuss useful roles where language technologies can be used to improve and ease the process of language documentation and revitalization. I will present some of my past and present projects developing Indigenous language technology for my tribe’s language, Choctaw. I’ll also describe a framework for evaluating the language competencies of generative AI for North American Indigenous languages. Throughout, I’ll share my experiences working with language communities and data sovereignty lessons learned in this era of big data and generative AI.
