No special recommendation for this course as of now. The course runs just fine and we suggest the current/future instructors keep the current syllabus, materials and teaching philosophy in the future teaching for COP 4710.

3. Course committee recommendations to department/UCC regarding this course.

We received several complaints of the current textbook "Database Management Systems" 3rd edition by Raghu and Johannes from both instructors and students. Note this book has not been updated since 2002. We may consider changing the textbook to another one "Database Systems: The Complete Book" 2nd edition by Hector Garcia-Molina, Jennifer Widom and Jeffrey Ullman, or combining the materials from both of these excellent textbooks in teaching COP 4710. However, we won't want to make changes immediately as in the next semester, the new assistant professor, Sonia Haiduc, will teach this course for the first time and she has already prepared the course based on the current textbook and materials. We may consider making some changes in the next academic year, say, starting from Fall 2014.
