Responsibilities as a Lab Assistant

• Duties

  As a lab manager, you are to perform the following duties:
  1. Validate access to the lab with FSU ID sign in/out.
  2. Check to make sure all the computers are up and running.
  3. Keep the printers fed with paper.
  4. Contact the System group if any services are required (additional paper, equipment or software failures, etc.).
  5. Keep the lab clean; contact Systems if janitorial services are required.
  6. Make sure no food/drink is consumed in the lab
  7. At the end of the day, make sure you secure the lab by arming the security alarm.
  8. Be aware of emergency exits and use 911 in case of emergencies.

• Knowledge

  You are responsible for knowing how the equipment operates in the labs and how to correct minor problems (printer jams, machine reboots, etc.). If you feel your knowledge level is inadequate, ask the System Group for help.

• Punctuality

  Make every effort to be on-time to the lab. If you are going to be late or have to miss your shift, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

  Try to arrive at least ten minutes before your shift starts, to give sufficient overlap at shift changes.

• Professionalism (including appropriate dress)

  You represent the Computer Science department while working in the lab. For many people, this means that their first and only impression of our department will be based solely on how professionally you conduct yourself. Make an effort to dress in a reasonable fashion.

• Helpfulness and Attitude

  While it is unreasonable to expect you to know every answer to every student question you can certainly project courtesy and helpfulness.
