Location: Lov 151 Time: 12/04/2013 People in the meeting: Robert van Engelen, Xiuwen Liu, Robert Myers, Peixiang Zhao, Sudhir Aggrawal, Gary Tyson, Xin Yuan, David Whalley, Zhi Wang, Piyush Kumar, Sonia Haiduc, Mike Burmester, Andy Wang The Biology department has proposed two changes to the Computational Biology program as summarized in the following quote from the email message from Jonnathan Dennis. " 1) Replacement of CIS4930 and BSC4933 with a new Practicum course.  This is important because the degree is not meeting the needs of the students. Until we know that there is a Practicum in place, we can expect to get another letter from the Dean asking why students are coming to her unable to take capstone courses.   2) Change of the 2011 L elective to new Eukaryotic Diversity.  This is important because the reason that the 2011L was included as an elective is no longer relevant (Quote from letter from Alice: "This course USED TO BE an animal diversity class, which might be relevant to CB students interested in phylogenetics/genomics.  It has been revised to align it with the material in BSC 2011 lecture (development, transmission genetics, evolution, and ecology).  This may still be relevant to comp bio, but the phylogenetic material that was originally in BSC 2011L when it was chosen as an elective has been moved to a new 3 credit lecture on Eukaryotic diversity.") " Both items were unanimously approved by the faculty. Robert asked if anyone is willing to teach the Practicum course, Gary indicated that he is willing to do so.
