Introduction to Intelligent System Techniques

Spring 2006

Department of Computer Science, Florida State University

Note for prospective students

From daily news and experience, intelligent systems, including intelligent software (such as spam filtering and stock price prediction) to intelligent vechicles are playing more and more important roles in our society. These exciting new challenges present opportunities for new and better jobs. While the basic principles common to intelligent systems are not difficult and many times are even intuitive, however they are often buried in the technical literature that can not be easily digested without proper background. Also mathematics involved in deriving and justifying these techniques can make the situation even worse.

To bridge the gap, the primary goal of this class is to help you understand and master these advanced techniques in intelligent systems without requiring strong mathematical skills. This is achieved by presenting these techniques through case studies and hands-on experience examples. In particular, the instructor will provide working programs (in Matlab or Java) for the basic algorithms and techniques to be covered in this class. It is the instructor's belief that this class will strenghten your computing skills and make you a much stronger candidate.
