CNT5605 - 2009 Fall
Group Assignment 2
Journals Due Thursday, September 9, at the beginning of class.

Assignment: NFS Installation

Your objective is to do a network install of CentOS 5.5 on your last box.

Read the directions on how to do an NFS install at RedHat.

Download the necessary installation files from a CentOS mirror.

Configure NFS to export a directory with those files (see, for instance, pp. 489-492 in LAH.) Don't forget to lower your firewall to let NFS through.

Next, you should find a stack of the first (of seven) CentOS 5.5 CDs up on the front desk. Boot your last machine up with one of those CDs using "linux askmethod", and choose the "NFS installation" option.

When asked where the installation media can be found, point to your NFS server and CentOS 5.5 onto your new server.

A journal is due for this assignment. Make sure that you document in your journal all of the steps that you went through, following the guidelines on the class home page. Please share the workload so that all team members get experience with all aspects of the work. Don't forget to assign your work percentages to yourself and your other teammates in your journal.

Please turn in a printed copy of this assignment at the beginning of class on Thursday, September 9.
