CNT4603 - Summer
Group Assignment 1
Journals Due Tuesday, May 31, Thursday, June 2, at the beginning of class.

Installation #1

Your assignment is to install Fedora 15 on one of the machines assigned to your group — please use the one on the left side.

There are 20 USB sticks, and one should be at your assigned desk. These should work, unless you have somehow been given an older machine; please let me know if this is the case.

As to disk partitioning issues, please use the remove all partitions option and don't bother to save any of the old information on the machine.

Networking information: you have been assigned a block of 10 ipv4 addresses. Please use the first one in your block, which should look like 192.168.10.N*10, where N is equal to your group number. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0; the gateway is 192.168.10.1; and there are nameservers located at 128.186.120.179 and 128.186.120.178.

While this assignment is quite straightforward for the most part, there is one major "gotcha": it is quite likely that you won't be able to use the windowing tools to set up your static network. Instead, you will have to figure out a way to do this. Using a search engine will likely be of great use.

A journal is due for this assignment. Make sure that you document in your journal all of the steps that you went through, following the guidelines on the class home page. Please share the workload so that all team members get experience with all aspects of the work. Don't forget to assign your work percentages to yourself and your other teammates in your journal.

Please turn in a printed copy of this assignment at the beginning of class on Tuesday, May 31 Thursday, June 2.
