(by Chris Lacher) |
Online Programs
- Bachelors Degree: SE and CS Majors
- Masters Degree: SE Major
- Also available at Panama City Branch Campus
Florida State University Department of Computer Science offers three programs
with the Software
Engineering major. All classes are available completely on-line, and most are
available in the alternate mixed mode of delivery wherein classes meet on campus
as well as on-line. Some of the core undergraduate classes are available as pure
on-campus delivery as well.
Philosophical Underpinnings
- SE is a superset of CS: rigorous degree, much more than management + high-level design
- Florida and USA served by providing more higly qualified professionals - less offshoring
- Students have more options:
- Place-bound students can obtain an excellent BS degree in CS with SE major
- Fast-track option to MS available 3 ways: all online, mixture, or all on campus
- Traditional BS graduates have a way to accept professional employment and
continue toward a MS degree
- Note 3 applies to graduates of other universities, not just FSU
- Working professionals with FSU degree can now go grad school without
quitting their job!
- FSU and Department served by graduating more students, particularly grad students
Bachelors Degree
- Full time program (part time also OK)
- SE major is primary
Principal innovation: 2-semester SE sequence with project
- CS major is also available
- Inter-campus transfer facilitated
- Upper division program, requires appropriate preparation at community college
