Ladislav J. Kohout
BIOSKETCH
Ladislav Kohout is Professor of Computer Science at
the Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he is also the
acting director of the FSU Institute for Cognitive Sciences. He is the US
Editor of "Journal of Intelligent Systems", an Associate editor
of the journal "Information Sciences" and a member of the Editorial Board
of the "International Journal of General Systems". He is also a member of
the Board of Directors of the Association for Intelligent Machinery.
Dr. Kohout was Deputy
Head of Computing Department, Institute of Astronomy, Czechoslovak
Academy of Science until 1968. He also held the posts involving mostly
interdisciplinary research in the Institute of Physiology, Institute of
Physics (both of the Czechoslovak Academy), the Medical Faculty of the
Charles University, Prague, and Man-Machine Systems Laboratory,
University of Essex.
In 1974-79 he was assistant professor in Medical Computing and
Bio-Engineering at University College (Medical School), University of
London. While there, he was also a technical director of a large
Nuffield Foundation sponsored project "Psychopharmacology of the
Elderly", a member of the Psychopharmacology Working Party and a
honorary lecturer in Geriatric Medicine. In 1977-79 he was also a
Parkinson's Disease Society Research Fellow in the Department of
Neurology. During this period at University College, he was also
involved
in teaching in neurology seminars, and in the Department of Mechanical
Enginnering he taught non-linear and stochastic control in a postgraduate
course of Naval Engineering. In 1974--79 he hold the title of a Honorary
Research Fellow at the Department of Electronic and Systems
Engineering, University of Essex.
Dr. Kohout joined Brunel,
the University of West London in 1979. He was a tenured associate professor
in the Department of Computer Science, and also a founding member of Brunel
Human-Computer Studies Group (its Chairman in years 1979-82).
For his research accomplishments he was promoted to Reader in Computer
Science (tenured,
university-wide appointment).
Dr. Kohout immigrated to the US with priority residence
visa as an internationaly recognized scientist in April 1988.
Professor Kohout is a member of a number of professional
societies, a Chartered Engineer registered with the British Council of
Engineering Institutions, a Fellow and a member of the Board of
Directors of the International Institute for Advanced Studies in
Systems Research and Cybernetics, a Felow of the Cybernetics
Society and a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
