Load Control
- The short-term scheduler schedules processes that are in memory (or at least partially in memory).
- The medium-term scheduler schedules processes that are out of memory (swapped out).
- Some operating systems have a long-term scheduler that schedule processes/jobs to run over a period of hours or days (batch queuing system).
- Figure 12.12 shows the first two levels.
- The short-term and medium-term schedulers must coordinate their activities to keep processes flowing freely between memory and the swap device.
