Working Set Model
- Idea is that if you can keep the number of allocated page frames for a process to be at least equal to the working set of that process it will never page fault once the working set is “filled”.
- The operating system should thus only run the process when all the pages in it’s working set are loaded into memory.
- The working set will change in time as the process proceeds.
- Studies show that the working set transitions or phases tend to happen abruptly.
- Measurements show: 95-98% of virtual time of a process is spent in a stable working set phase.
