Course Description
Computer and Network System Administration is an increasingly complex and essential field. As the reliance of industry and government on computer systems increases so does the number and importance of System Administrators. The field has matured to the stage where professional bodies are being formed and tertiary institutions are being asked to provide courses in System Administration. This course is an attempt to provide a practical problem-solving approach to the field of UNIX and Windows NT Computer and Network System Administration.
Prerequisites
COP 4610 - Operating Systems UNIX Systems Programming (strongly desired) Working knowledge of the C programming language User-level knowledge of UNIX User-level knowledge of Windows 95 or Windows NT
Aims: To produce students who are capable of administering a multi-user networked computer system. This will include providing students with practical experience of:
Setting up, maintaining and extending a multi-user computer system Development of administrative policy and procedure User assistance and education of users Advanced UNIX commands and management Windows NT procedures Networking and communication Independent problem solving
