Research in the Internet Technology Cauldron

We discuss our research effort which uses largely commercial technology 
(Java XML CORBA etc.) to reseach issues in large scale distributed 
systems -- How to make Java high performance? How to do Web Computing? 
How to do distance education? etc.  Research issues include architecture 
and difficult problems like security, fault-tolerance, integration of 
PDA's and supercomputers into large scale "grids".  We show how students 
can compete with much larger commercial efforts and with a PhD qualify 
for a broader range of jobs in both industry and academia.
