Welcome to the FSU Chapter of ACM-Women!
The goal of the FSU ACM-Women chapter is to take positive action to encourage women to participate in computer-related studies, research and careers, to promote their marketability in industry, and to support a congenial atmosphere. For more information about ACM-Women, take a look at http://women.acm.org. This group is open to all students (male or female) that wish to promote women in computing.
History and Activities
This chapter of ACM-Women was formed in the fall of 2008 as a continuation of the older Women in Computer Science (WiCS) group, and we have kept ourselves busy in the last year! Our activities range anywhere from pure fun and socialization to encouraging women to think about computing through fun logic puzzles at the local Market Wednesday event at the Student Union. This year we are starting a peer-mentoring group within the computer science department! To take a look at upcoming events or see some of the things we've done in the past, check out the Activities and Minutes menu item above.
Our group is open to any student of Florida State University, and there are quite a few ways to get involved. Our Facebook page is here. A historic component of our group is our online Google Group. We plan activities on the Google Group and have many informal topics. Another way would be to attend one of our general meetings, which are advertised both in the CS Department and on this webpage. Alternatively, our official mailing list is open to everyone and is a great way to recieve professional notifications of activities, internships, jobs, and other computing-related activities. Just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
