Dial-Up Services through ACNS
The Academic Computing and Network Services group offers free PPP accounts
for all FSU students. They also offer accounts for faculty. These accounts
are not maintained by the Computer Science department, so please see the
ACNS web site for more information.
A Quick Dial-Up Session through ACNS
You can access your Computer Science account via telnet through ACNS without
acquiring a PPP account:
- Set your communication software for 8 Data Bits, No Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.
- Dial 644-2700.
- When you get the message that you have connected, hit Enter once.
- At the "Enter username>" prompt, type "fsu" in lowercase letters.
- At the "Enter user password>" prompt, type "public" in lowercase letters.
- You will be prompted with a menu of choices. Enter "3" as your selection.
- When you see "Telnet within FSU campus..." enter "xi.cs.fsu.edu".
- You will then be greeted with the xi login procedure. Enter your Computer Science name and password to gain access to xi.
Dial-Up Services through the Computer Science Department
The Computer Science Department offers a small number of dial-up lines
for graduate students and faculty (undergrads please use ACNS).
All dial-up lines are serviced by US Robotics 33.6 Kpbs modems, and
offer a variety of connection types, including simple terminal sessions,
SLIP, and PPP.
Phone Numbers
All of the Computer Science modems are now on a single rotary. The
phone number for all lines is 644-6090.
A Quick Dial-Up Session through the CS Department
- Set your communication software for 8 Data Bits, No Parity, and 1
Stop Bit.
- Dial 644-6090.
- When you have connected, hit Enter once.
- At the "annexcs login:" prompt, enter your username.
- At the "Password:" prompt, enter your password.
- You will be prompted with the following menu of choices:
Possible protocols (rlogin,telnet,slip,cslip,auto,slip6,cslip6,ppp,help)
- At the "protocol:" prompt, enter "rlogin shell"(or another machine name).
- You will then be connected to the machine.
