Piyush Kumar receives the AFOSR YIP awardNovember 23, 2009
Dr. Piyush Kumar has received the highly competitive and prestigious, 2010 Air Force Office of Research Young Investigator Program award! Only 38 junior faculty nationwide were selected for this highly competitive distinction (7 were from Computer Science departments nationwide). The objective of this program is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering, enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators, and increase opportunities for the young investigators to recognize the Air Force mission and the related challenges in science and engineering. Dr. Kumar will receive a grant to conduct basic research in the area of "Geometric Clustering and it's Applications". The award amount is about $120k per year for a period of three years. He also has the distinction of winning an NSF CAREER award in 2007.
