Desktop Engineer- $60,000/yr
The Desktop Engineer manages the design, implementation and support of the desktop environment, which includes Windows workstations, laptops, and mobile devices. Responsibilities include defining hardware standards, engineering and securing the standard desktop image, product and system lifecycle management, application packaging and testing, end point protection, and implementation and management of enterprise-wide desktop back up strategy. User and business unit day-to-day support for application and image issues. Overall design, planning, and testing of the desktop environment and the delivery and maintenance of the corporate application environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Lead deployment of software/hardware updates; oversee workstation deployments, and deliver workstation imaging services;
Ensure desktop acquisition, image and application deployment, and management standards are met;
Maintain a hardware independent imaging strategy to rapidly deploy and/or restore desktop environments;
Application packaging, testing, deployment and management with strong expertise in tools like SCCM;
Deploying and managing desktop virtualization technologies with strong expertise in tools like App-V, UE-V, MED-V, Client Hyper-V, and with virtualization management technologies like MBAM and AGPM.
Building and maintaining desktop and server images, producing and employing Group Policy Objects to manage the environment, and deploying images and applications using multiple methodologies, including SCCM, MDT, WAIK, WDS, etc.
Package, test and deploy Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) packages via SCCM, providing deployment status reports through SCOM as requested
Package integration into Operating Systems Deployment (OSD) task sequences. Create / modify existing task sequence for OS deployments to desktop / server hardware
Documentation and maintenance of system and network information, including software inventory.
Work with the Systems Administration team to manage the design, implementation and support of the desktop environment;
Provide application server support for the Systems Administration team, including Active Directory and Exchange administration.
SKILLS AND QAULIFICATIONS
Minimum 7 years experience installing and supporting hardware peripheral, software, applications, and operating systems in a Microsoft Windows Enterprise Environment;
Minimum 5 years customer support experience supporting a diverse customer base including C-level executives;
Experience troubleshooting and enhancing desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO) as well as the ability to create custom policies;
Experience with SCCM and/or other desktop management suites with adept experience deploying applications within a global infrastructure.
Must have experience supporting desktop virtualization technologies such as Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp;
Expert supporting Windows operating systems, as well as Microsoft based applications such as Office 2007, Office 2010, MS-Project and Visio;
Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving issues related to Active Directory and Exchange;
Must have strong mastery of laptop tools and deployment experience with the ability to perform break/fix operations;
Proven experience with ghost backup and imaging systems;
Extensive experience troubleshooting windows registry and file system problems;
Outstanding customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the organization;
A solid understanding of networking concepts and technologies including: Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN, load balancing, and DHCP are required;
Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently;
Ability to safely move and/or carry 40 lbs.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
4 year degree or equivalent experience;
Microsoft certifications (MCTS, MCSE) highly preferred;
3+ years developing and deploying unattended operating system installations for workstations, desktops, and laptops with an in-depth understanding of hardware independent imaging capabilities;
Experience with desktop imaging and application packaging utilities.
