Student Programmer

The Dept of Oceanography has a need to fill programming tasks ideal for students to earn money and become familiar with various elementary programming tasks. Much of the code is written and can be used as example, as well as guidance available from the original code writers. These tasks can be easily progress into thesis type projects and more income. One example is writing code to autopilot a towed camera array currently surveying the areas impacted by the Deepwater Horizon spill. Minimum hours are guaranteed.

1. Read hex data from established parsing Perl code. Translate conversion algorithm into a Perl data processing file. Much of the code is written for examples.

2. Modify a established Delphi Pascal 5 program to display a real time series graphic from a variable currently displayed in the GUI

3. Create a Windows GUI that display several variables (pitch, roll, compass heading, depth to bottom) in a window. This requires reading a ascii text string from a serial com port parsing the individual variables and place them in an identified box that is updated every second.
