Travel Restrictions Summary

The State of Florida imposes a number of restrictions on travel expenses, including requirements to use State contracts where they exist. The two cases you are most likely to need to know about are summarized below. More information on these and other travel rules can be found at the web site of the FSU Travel Office. The departmental travel representative can also give you advice.

Air Travel Restrictions

You are required to use the State of Florida Airfare Contract unless there is justification for not using it. Possible justifications include:

The current contractor is AirTran Airlines. If you are using a travel agent to make reservations, tell them to check on the State of Florida Contract carriers. More information is available on the web site of the FSU Travel Office.

Automobile Rental Restrictions

You are required to use the State of Florida Automobile Rental Contract unless there is justification for not using it. Possible justifications include:

The current rental car contractor is Avis. The contract number is "Avis AWD No. A113400". If you are using a travel agent to make reservations, tell them to check on the State of Florida contract.

Unless there is special justification, you will only be reimbursed for a Compact (Avis Class B) car.

Hotel Reimbursement Restrictions

You can generally be reimbursed for the full cost of a hotel room if the hotel is the site of a conference (and you do not have a rental car). In-State travel that is not covered by the previous rule is generally limited to a total per-diem allowance of $50/day. Foreign travel is handled completely on a per-diem basis, so that hotel costs do not enter into the computation. See the Travel Office web site for more information on the foreign per-diem rates.
