One looks for new applications of
Computer Science and pioneers in their development, usually
working in collaboration with people who are experts in the
application area. This may involve the development of entirely
new CS technology inspired by the needs of a new application, but
more frequently involves the transfer, adaptation, and improvement
of technology from one area in order to apply it to another. Accepted
standards of quality include:
- The techniques applied must be original, relative to the application area.
- The techniques must be technically sound, making use of the most
up-to-date relevant CS theory and knowledge.
- There must be some utility to the work; it should advance
the science or practice in the given application area.
- It is especially good if the application exposes questions
that lead to new theoretical or experimental research in CS.
