Student Financial Aid Opportunties

Below you will find scholarship opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students, from sources around the nation. If you have any questions that are not answered by the information and links provided here, please feel free to ask your academic advisor. Most applications and forms are due to the academic advisor.

CS Department Endowment Scholarships

• 3 Harris Undergraduate Scholarships - $4000 each

  Offered to computer science undergraduate students who have excelled in their academic studies. Application turn in starts in January to apply for the following academic year.
  
  The Harris Corporation, headquartered in Melbourne, Florida established an endowment in 2001 to provide scholarships for highly qualified Florida State University computer science undergraduate students. Three awards of $4,000 each are given annually to students that are eligible to receive a US security clearance. Summer internships at Harris Corporation are available and encouraged for awardees. Interested students should submit an application, unofficial transcripts, and a resume' to Matthew Claypool in 203 C Love by the 19th of February prior to the desired award year. Awardees will be announced at the Annual Computer Science Awards Ceremony, held in April.

• 2 or 3 Owenby undergraduate scholarships - $2000 each

  Offered to computer science undergraduate students; preference given to students with financial need. Application starts in Spring for the following academic year.

• 1 Harris graduate scholarship - $17,000

  Offered to computer science graduate students who have excelled in their academic studies. Tuition will be included. Application starts in January for the following academic year.

• University Fellowships - $19,000 each

  Offered to graduate students based mainly on undergradate GPA and GRE scores. Effective for Fall/Spring academic year. Includes a tuition waiver and a health insurance supplement. Applications are due each year in January for the following academic year.

• Presidential Fellowships - $24,000 each

  Offered to graduate students who are newly admitted to the Ph.D. program. Stipend is for the first and fourth years. Includes a tuition waiver and a health insurance supplement. Support for the second and third years are funded by the department that is at a level consistent with other students who have received departmental support. Applications are due each year in January for the following academic year.

• College Teaching Fellowships - $6,300 each

  Offered to a select set of graduate students who applied for a university or presidential fellowship and did not receive one. A supplement to this stipend is provided by the department. A subsidy for health insurance is also provided.

• Leslie N. Wilson - Delores Auzenne Assistantship - $5000 each

  Offered to minority graduate students. Includes a tuition waiver and a subsidy for health insurance.

• McKnight Doctoral Fellowship - $12,000 each year

  These fellowships provide up to five years of support. $12,000 stipend is provided for the first four years. Additional support during each of these years is possible through the department. Tuition waivers and a subsidy for health insurance is also provided. A fifth year of support is also possible through the department that is at a level consistent with other students who have received departmental support. Deadline is January 15 for the following academic year. Applications are available on the FEF website . Grant, Scholarship, and Loan Opportunities for Female students

P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) funding

P.E.O. is one of the pioneer societies for women, and was founded in 1869.

Their mission is to promote educational opportunities for women. They have financially assisted over 77,000 women seek higher education, and have distributed over $125 million in financial aid to female students. • P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund - up to $10,000

  An applicant must be recommended by a local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and be within two years of completing her course of study. The current maximum loan is $10,000 at 3% interest and due six years from the date of issue. This loan is available to both graduate and undergraduate students.

• P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship - $10,000 each

  P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) Fund was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada. The maximum amount awarded to a student is $10,000. Lesser amounts may be awarded according to individual needs.

• P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education Grant - $3,000 each

  P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE) was established to provide need based grants to women in the United States and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families. The maximum grant is $3,000. Regardless of the amount awarded, the grant is for one time only. The money is intended as a grant-in-aid for expenses such as tuition, books, transportation, or childcare, necessary to reach the applicant's educational goal.

The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship - $10,000

Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003) shattered barriers for women and minorities in computing and technology fields. In her honor, Google is proud to honor Anita's memory and support women in technology with the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. Typically, all scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to attend the Annual Google Scholars' Retreat in Mountain View, California. Applicant requirements:

• Female student entering senior year of undergraduate study OR be enrolled in a graduate program in the academic year of the scholarship at a university in the United States;
• Enrolled in Computer Science as a full-time student for the academic year of the scholarship;
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
