Using the Remote Process Menu

If NeurOn-Line is unsuccessful in connecting to the remote process on startup, or if you configure the remote process to not start automatically, you will need to use the Remote Process menu to reconfigure and start the remote process. The steps for running the RPC from within NOL are described in "Starting the RPC Running from within NOL".

Normally, you do not need to use these menu choices because NOL handles the RPC automatically, as described in "Configuring the Remote Process on Startup".

To display the Remote Process menu:

NeurOn-Line displays this submenu:

This table describes each menu choice:

This menu choice... Does this...
Start
Starts the remote process and connects to it. NOL displays a status message indicating whether the start was successful or an error message if the start failed. When the remote process is configured to start automatically, the default, this menu choice is selected automatically when you start G2.
Kill
Shuts down the remote process and breaks the communication connection. It might be necessary to kill the remote process before you choose the Start menu choice.
Connect
Establishes the communication connection to the remote process. You use this menu choice if you have started the remote process manually in an external window, as described in "Starting the Remote Process in an External Window".
Ping
Displays a message on the status of the remote process.
Printing
When this menu choices is checked, causes output from the remote process to be printed to the window where the remote procedure was launched, usually the same window where G2 was launched. When this menu choice is not checked, turns off printing to the window where the RPC is running.
Configure...
Displays a dialog for configuring the remote process. This is the same dialog that NOL displays when you initially start the application and configure the remote process, as described in "Configuring the Remote Process on Startup".

Depending on the state of the remote process, menu choices might be enabled or disabled, in which case they are grayed out. For example, if your remote process is running, the Start and Connect menu choices are grayed out, as the submenu in the picture above shows.
