decnetport

Directs the new G2 process to open a network connection to the specified DECnet port, with additional attempts to connect to other DECnet ports as necessary.

Platforms

All platforms

Syntax

decnet-port-name: Identifier for a DECnet port name; must begin with an alphabetic character.

Equivalent Environment Variable

None

Description

This option directs the new G2 process to open a network connection to a DECnet port. Specify the port's name as an argument, following the option.

If the new G2 process cannot open a connection to the specified port, this option also directs G2 to attempt to open a connection to the G2 default DECnet port name g20.

If this is not successful, G2 increments the last digit in that port name (to g21), attempts to connect to that port name, and so on. G2 stops after trying to connect to DECnet port name g2100-that is, after incrementing the G2 default DECnet port name 100 times.

Special Considerations

Including the -decnetexact option in the command line modifies how the new G2 process attempts to open a DECnet network connection. See the section decnetexact.

Example

This command starts a G2 process that attempts to open a network connection to thee DECnet port named c17:
