Using GDI to Create an Interface

The G2 Developer's Interface (GDI) is a set of G2 utilities that enable you to develop a consistent Microsoft Windows-like Graphical User Interface for G2. GDI provides:

A starting point for G2 menu KB development that conforms to Windows standards
Pre-constructed menus and supporting dialogs for G2, using GFR, GUIDE, GMS, and GOLD
A development environment that enables complete customization and localization of all GDI capabilities, using conventional G2 techniques

GDI contains four utilities that include a Windows-like menu bar for G2 menu options, dialog masters that you can clone and customize, a GUI for printing, a customizable tree-view control, a class and workspace browser utility, and API calls for each utility. The four utilities are:

G2 Menu Utility - a standard Windows-like menu system for G2
G2 File Utility - a series of dialogs that support KB and module management
G2 Printer Utility - a general-purpose printing tool
G2 Tree Utility - a tree-view control that you can use when constructing a user interface

GDI makes use of the following G2 utilities:

Gensym Foundation Resources (GFR) provides the ability to localize applications and control the order of module initialization, using startup objects.
G2 Menu System (GMS) provides the ability to create Windows style menus.
G2 Graphical User Interface Development Environment (GUIDE) provides procedures, rules, and user menu choices that create and manipulate dialogs and the UIL controls that reside on the dialog.
G2 Online Documentation (GOLD) provides the ability to view documentation online through the use of an HTML browser.
