Fresh/Sophomore Web Advisor
This Web Advisor was designed to be a quick, easy, and efficient way to
get basic advising. More advanced students (36+ hrs.) should be advised
through their Computer Science Undergraduate Academic
Advisors.
Which major is the right one for you?
There are four different degree programs available at FSU that result in a
computer related career. Please click here for a brief
description of each of these programs.
Computer Science Academic Map
We have developed a
Computer Science Academic Map for those of you who have selected the Computer
Science Program at FSU. This plan is based upon the current course
requirements and is subject to change. You may use this four-year
plan as a general guide, but always check with your Computer
Science Academic Advisor at least two weeks prior to your
registration date to verify that you are taking the best classes
for you.
Liberal Studies Requirements for Computer Science Majors at
FSU
- Math = 3-4 hours
- Natural Science = 7 hours (from CS
approved list of Science Majors only courses)
- English = 6 hours
- History/Social Science = 6-12 hours (at least 3 in History
and 3 in Social Science)
- Humanities/Fine Arts = 5-11 hours (one in a Humanities
literature course, designated by an *)
- Two additional classes in History/Social science and/or
Humanities/Fine Arts.
- Oral Communication Competency Requirement (Speech course)
- x (cross cultural) and y (western
diversity) multicultural courses.
Select at least one "x"
course and one "y" course when selecting your History/Social
Science and Humanities/Fine Arts courses. You can find out which
courses are "x" and "y" in the FSU General Bulletin under "Undergraduate
Degree Requirements".
- Gordon Rule (writing) courses.
The State of Florida
requires that all students must write a minimum of 24,000 words
prior to graduation. In order to meet this requirment at FSU, all
students must take a total of eight Gordon Rule classes. These
include two classes in math (6 credits), two classes in English (6
credits), and an additional four classes (12 credits) in History,
Social Science, Humanities, and/or Fine Arts. Gordon Rule classes
are designated by a "W" (for "writing") in the General Bulletin
under "College-Level
Communication Skills".
Arts and Science Requirement
- Foreign Language - up to the intermediate level
- Completed Minor (Math minor automatic with CS degree)
Computer Science Admission Requirement Checklist
- 60 completed credit hours
- 2.65 GPA
- No more than five grades below C- in any Math, Science, or Computer Science course
- MAC 2311 - Calculus I
- CGS 3408 - C for Nonspecialists
Requirements for using this web advisor
- Student must have completed a minimum of 3 credit hours at FSU.
What math do I take next?
Select your HIGHEST math course "passed/accepted" after the
current semester. (Select your HIGHEST course, whether taken at
FSU or accepted by dual enrollment, AP scores, or SAT/ACT scores.)
The minimum requirement for formal admission is MAC 2311.
