| DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE ACADEMICS UNDERGRADUATE INFORMATION |
Honors work in Computer Science is the vehicle for incorporating undergraduate students from the FSU Honors program into the Computer Science Department. Simply put, it allows undergraduate students to participate in programs such as Honors in the Majors program with Computer Science faculty and while working on a computer science honors thesis.
Students that are interested in conducting research as undergraduates can easily do so through this program. Many students decide during their honors program whether or not they want to seek a graduate degree and those that do, take a large step toward selecting a graduate program through undergraduate honors work. Those that do not go on to the graduate program experience research with an expert in the field and receive the added benefit of graduating "With Honors".
Entry requirements are dictated by the FSU Honors Program, and Honors Work in Computer Science (CIS 4933) hours can only be taken by students that have been accepted into an appropriate honors program. In general, these programs require students to take at least six hours of honors work that results in a major work product presented as an honors thesis.
The FSU Honors Program web page and offices can provide interested students with all details about the honors program. The FSU Computer Science Department selects a faculty member as its departmental Honors liason each fall. This liason will work with students to help them find an advisor and to conduct departmental Honors paperwork. The CS Department Honors liason can be contacted by calling the departmental office at 644-2296. For the Academic Year 2003-4,the Honors liason is Dr. Ashok Srinivasan. He can be reached at asriniva@cs.fsu.edu or by phone at 644-0559.
